Chuck Liddell Coy On Retirement, Rashad Evans Earns Title Shot
Chuck Liddell Coy On Retirement, Rashad Evans Earns Title ShotAfter dismantling former light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell, Rashad Evans has earned a shot at the title. Sources tell Fightline.com that Evans, who is undefeated, will likely take on Griffin on Dec. 27 as part of the promotions annual New Years Eve show.

"Lorenzo (Fertitta), Joe (Silva) and I got together and thought yeah, he deserves the title shot," said White. "How could you say, 'No, he doesn't deserve the shot' after that?"

It appears that the UFC was planning on offering Liddell a shot at Griffin had he won as expected, but as long time fans of the sport can attest to, MMA fights don't always go as expected. As for Liddell, he's going to wait awhile before deciding his future.

"I got caught," said a downtrodden Liddell. "What do you want me to say. I've always said I'm going to retire in the training room, not after a fight,".

Evans addressed the upcoming title shot with the trade mark exuberance of a man who has been counted out every step of the way. Including his days on the UFC's reality show, The Ultimate Fighter.

"It's exciting man," said Evans. "I'm still living in the moment right now and haven't put much thought into it right now. A title fight is just another fight."

Expect fireworks on Dec. 27 when the UFC pits the winner of it's first ever season of The Ultimate Fighter with the winner of its second season.
