The Nevada State Athletic Commission has recently begun a more pro-active approach to deterring the high rate of positive tests for prohibited substances.

In a memo released on the NSAC website, a procedure is described in which all licensees are subject to random testing prior to fights as well as the performer’s scheduled fight date. The NSAC has used this method in hopes of dropping the unusually high rate of positives especially among MMA fighters; which has seen the likes of Tim Sylvia, Sean Sherk, Hermes Franca, and Nick Diaz suspended in the past.

This new initiative begs several questions one of which being the possible issue of getting reliable tests from International fighters which make up a significant portion of many organization’s stable of fighters.
